Dr. Brian Day

Dr. Brian Day is an Associate Professor in orthopaedics at UBC. His early education was in England, where he obtained specialist qualifications in both internal medicine and surgery. He completed his orthopaedic training in Vancouver. 

He has received the Edouard Samson Award, the premier award for orthopaedic research in Canada. He is a past chair of the committee responsible for the national qualifying exams in orthopaedics in Canada.  

Based on his pioneering efforts in the introduction and teaching of techniques that revolutionized the treatment of sports injuries, this year he will become the first orthopaedic surgeon to be inducted into the BC Sports Hall of Fame. 

He has been a visiting professor and lecturer at universities worldwide and has published over 200 articles and book chapters.  He received the Don Rix leadership award of the BC Medical Association. 

He is a former president of the Canadian Medical Association and AANA, the world’s leading academic society in his field.  

He served as medical officer for multiple international sporting events. His patients have included professional athletes and celebrities from around the world.  

 

Together with five patients, Dr. Day led a Charter challenge to existing prohibitions on access to nongovernment health care in Canada.
